Thyroid Blood Tests..
2 Answers
I had a thyroid goitre which was surgically removed in 1987 & another on the other side removed in 1995. I was told I only had thyroid remnants left. Prescribed 100mcg of Levothyroxine but this was reduced to 50 mcg in 2003 when I lost a lot of weight & all other tests were returning clear.
I have been fine since but in the last few months my weight has crept up & up although I eat healthily & exercise. I have also felt tired/lethargic.
I mentioned this to my GP quite recently whilst there for a medication review & he arranged for some bloods to be taken. I remember in the past (albeit some time back) the test included T3/T4 but for the last two years I have just had the Serum TSH Level checked, my GP saying this was all that was required.
My latest TSH has returned at 1.82 mu/L but for the same time last year it was 2.01 mu/L.
Is this last result in the accepted region & wonder if I should ask for the T3/T4 tests to done although I am quite sure he will say (again) it isn't necessary.
I don't like the extra weight & certainly not the tiredness. Thanks
