Not had it done myself but I know folk who have and no, it didn't hurt, and wasn't as bad as they anticipated at all.
Had it done myself. No it doesn't hurt as you are anethasised locally beforehand. Much like the dentist, it's the thought of the initial injection that's scary, but it's nothing really.

Awake all through mine, calm as anything, though I was britting shicks to start with.

Two hours later, vision was coming back, and a day later, it was like new.

Don't worry, you'll be fine.
I remember my Uncle had it done a few years ago.....he said it was the best thing he ever did.....and he didn't feel anything, so please don't worry, rodders.....and you will be able to see much better :-)
