Warfarin.

The medics have discovered I have Atrial Fibrillation and want to put me on Warfarin.

As someone who has been extremely athletic since a teenager I am not looking forward to this, having heard tales of copious bleeding from minor cuts, constant monitoring etc. I understand the purpose of an anti-coagulant and the consequences of not taking one but I need words of comfort and reassurance from fellow travellers. I am now near my mid 80s and very active.

warferin is an awful drug to have to take, avoid it if you can, you can use natural blood thinners see here for high Salicylate foods. Cranbury almonds etc click on the grups and eat from the"high" column:

if you really have to take a drug, ask for Riveroxaban instead.

PS also avoid foods with high Vit K they are natural coagulants.

I had this and was on warfarin before it was treated. Warfarin or blood thinners are important as (I believe) the fast heart beat that I had can lead to heart attacks or strokes.....the thinner the blood the less of a problem the other things can be. Atrial Fibrillation can be treated and I have had no recurrance of the ridiculously fast heart beat since that tretment...I am checked out every 6 months and am on 4 different pills a day but no longer warfarin..I take a 75mg aspirin to help keep the blood flowing...I have just remembered that the warfarin was given to me so that they could treat me more safely....they did and I am fine...hopefully you will be fine too

Oh dear.. Mine dint post. Avoid it, I should be onit but won't! Too intrusive and doesn't give you control. Down to choice, I wouldn't touch it....!

Just seen TTTs post..I have to say that I had absolutely no problems for the months that I took warfarin

You need Warfarin or Rivaroxiban....the latter is less hassle.
Aspirin is useless in atrial fibillation.
You should have no problems other than you may bruise more easily.

You should be monitored regularly they only want a longer clotting time not to stop your blood clotting completely.
