Braun Electric Toothbrush

Hi i have been advised by my dentist to use a Braun electric toothbrush that is good for gums model 2500.money is a bit tightvas it is around 80 pounds to buy..Does anybody know if there a brand that is equivalent to this model but cheaper please. ? Thanks.

I would take the dentist's advice and invest in the most expensive one you can afford. That must be better than gum disease.

Buy the best that you can afford.
Maybe the product comparison sites can help.

(Alternatively you could always ask your dentist to extract all your gums so they can't give you any more trouble.)

Mine is an Oral B from Boots retail price £80 but was 50% off. My dentist suggested the brand. She had top of the range but only because it was given to her by the rep. She said there is no need to go over the top as a lot of things on the top range aren't required. Get one with an oscillating brush head possibly a timer and maybe low battery warning if rechargeable. That should be all you need. Boots price is often similar to Argos but you get reward points if you have a Boots card.

We both have OralB Pro 600 cross action
The hygienist advised us that it was not necessary to spend over £30 on an electric toothbrush
Also, that a round head was much better

extract your gums? That's the nuclear option, I suppose, but wouldn't it just be easier to sew your mouth shut?

I got an Oral B round headed one from Tesco's was £25 because I was suffering from inflamed gums By the time I saw my dentist again the problem was solved and my dentist was extremely pleased with the condition of my teeth Dentists do recommend Oral B as well as Braun

I use sonicare as I don't like Oral B and my dentist (and hygienist) are always pleased with the state of my teeth.

I went to a private dentist (through work) and they recommended an electric toothbrush. To be honest, I can't see any benefit from it. In fact when I brush my teeth with it, it makes me gag. Any old toothbrush will suffice if you have the correct brushing technique.

I use both electric & manual brushes. The Cortisol sensitive mauaul brush is very good for gum massage.

I really don't think it makes that much difference, I've always used an electric one for years and pay about £25 for an Oral B which are always half-price it seems. You can buy different heads for them anyway. I bet an £80 one is no better at all.

My dentist recommends an good quality toothbrush and proper brushing. The two minutes are essential. Don't like the noise in my mouth with an electric.

my dentist told my husband (who was a heavy handed brusher) that the two benefits of an electric toothbrush is that it helps to prevent brushing too hard which can erode the gums and damage teeth; and the two minute timer makes it more likely that people will brush for longer...he (the dentist) also used to encourage people to get the kind that had a signal every 30 seconds to ensure that the two minutes covered the whole of the mouth.

I definitely agree with the dentist. at the end of the day you will only be cheating yourself and probably need to buy a new one in a couple of months as cheap ones have a short lifespan.

Is it possible that your dentist might be getting some kind of commission/backhander for this recommendation? My dentist once recommended something similar, and gave me a voucher to hand in at the shop, so that made me wonder if he was thinking of himself, rather than my teeth.

Well I've used a £25 Oral B one for the last 15 years and I have only just bought my third in that time so no problems with cheap ones not lasting.
