has anyone heard of this before, as you have till June 23rd to opt out. I will be telephoning my GP first thing, isn't this a total breach of confidentiality, your medical records up for grabs.

This seems to only apply in England.
Question Author
sorry but i shall ring the surgery before i go out and see what they say.
Yes, no need to contact your GP, you opt out using the form online
Question Author
have you opted out Barry....
Question Author
i can't find the form, there does seem to be some misinformation about this, will still speak with GP and see what he can explain
Emmie - open the link in Fibonacci's post above and it will direct you to the opt out option
Question Author
filled in a form, opting out of sharing data, hopefully that's all one needs to do.
Question Author
thanks Fibonacci, Baz
Yes, just fill in the online form. You can change it at any time if you so wish.

The form is 'buried' quite a way down which is either pretty disgusting way of trying to stop people opt out or sheer incompetence. Knowing NHS IT probably the latter which is why I am opting out.
Question Author
i think i have filled it all in, but i will clear matters with the GP later on.
Who cares - the information will be anonymised and to be honest I really don't care who knows my medical history.
I am sure it has been discussed on here before too in the past week or so.
Ditto, Lankeela. Can’t see why it matters.
Is this sinister ? I am not sure it is.

Data being shared will result in better treatment especially if you become sick away from home. Hospitals, clinics or other health professionals can get the full picture when treating you.

This is different than your medical data being sold to the highest bidder for commercial gain. That isn’t what is happening here.
Question Author
i have spoken with my GP, and there is a form you have to fill in and get it back to them, Patient Identifier Dissent, print it off somehow fill in and take to the surgery. That's what i was just told
Question Author
even the receptionist said she hadn't filled hers in yet, but must get on and do it
So it's not enough just to fill it in on-line ?
