(Not medical update to my situation, hence posting in CB)

There is a woman admitted to bed opposite me yesterday morning. Broken ankle. She has spent half the time on her mobile fone - loudly - and on handsfree!! So I/we know everything about what her husband has done all day, where her kids have been, what her mum has had for dinner, you name it…… The consultant & his team turned up a while ago to review her and while with her her fone rang. She actually answered it and told the consultant to hang on!! And she answered it & chatted! He just looked in disbelief. She’s already arranged her OH bringing up a takeaway tonight that they can sit here and have together, yet the poor woman in the bed nxt to her is NBM so that’s not going to be very nice for her - it’s bad enough eating these dire meals in front of her,
She just seems utterly oblivious to anyones feelings or who is around her. Am biting my tongue not to say anything as I’m in so much pain I’m stressed as it is and once I say something I may regret it, but I just can’t comprehend how some people can be so selfish!! She’s treating it like a holiday camp!
Rant over.

Takes your mind off your troubles though
I don't see why the staff can't tell her to not put her phone on speaker and keep it on 'silent' out of consideration to other patients.
Can you not have a word with one of the nurses about the 'phone and ask if takeaways are allowed?
Bloody rude...typical of society which has gleaned what it has sewn.
Informality and lack of respect.

That situation I have never had to face, but the solution would have been quite simple, I would have just moved on to the next patient with just a look and not a word to the otherwise occupied patient.
How times have changed! When my husband was too ill to eat the hospital food they wouldn't let me bring in something he could eat...unless for religious reasons.
I appreciate you can't say something to her but do say to the staff. Imagine if every visitor brought a meal to share with a patient.
If the staff can't stop her behaving in this way there is something wrong with the running of the ward.
She needs a 1960s Matron! ;-)

Get well soon, Smow...x
Damn savage - why is she in hospital with a broken ankle? Plaster it up & send her packing.

Think one of us is going to have to spk to a nurse - apart from all that her fone is ringing non stop. The poor elderly lady nxt to her looks as though she could throttle her.
And completely agree Sqad - I wish he had just walked off and left her on the phone.
Are you mobile, Smow and does she have a jug of water? If so when she has a doze pop the phone in the water. :-)
If the above doesn't work, nick her phone when/if she goes to sleep.

What's wrong with her besides rudeness and is she likely to be in for long?
I know how you must feel Smow, some people really are oblivious to what is going on around them.
Speak to the sister on the ward and tell her how it's annoying everyone.
Hope you get it sorted and soon feel better. xx
Ladybirder.......what's wrong with her besides rudeness......she has a broken ankle LOL...just a joke.
Smow - you've had quite a few bad things to deal with over the years, which I've followed on AB. One that sticks in my mind from a while back is that you helped someone who was homeless (?) and down on his luck, but it only brought you ingratitude and problems. Or have I misremembered?
I'm surprised she's in there just with a broken ankle.
naomi...she may be awaiting surgery.
Try not to worry, readers, these tales generally end up with a happy ending as I'm sure you're aware.

Don't have nightmares

Yes I know what you mean gg…….

Whilst I was typing this post I swear the staff here must have read my mind. They’ve literally just this sec come in with occupational health & a zimmerframe, got her to see if she could use it, which she proudly displayed she could, grinning away, so they then said oh you can go home - were talking you down to the discharge lounge!! She looks quite peed off to be going home!! : )
Tadah!! :-)

Sadly the pedant in me has wrestled control and I have to ask where needlework comes into the equation ?

Is it not reaped and sown ?

Must be all that time you have spent with sutures eh Sqad ? Lol

Sticky......like many times in my life, I stand corrected.
// I would have just moved on to the next patient //
when they have finished - unless there is a door oudda the ward via the sluice, call you back wiv
" wot you going on abart den?"

and of course Hippocrates went on abart treating a patient on account of what they suffer from and not what they are or how you feel

see this will hurt
