Gall Stones

Is it true that when the gall bladder has been removed, gall stones can still be produced? And what are the symptoms?

Yes its very true. A new stone can form or a stone may be left (Accidently) after the op which then subsequently blooks the bile duct. Symptoms depend on the site of the blockage but a common bile duct blockage may cause jaundice, fever, pain under the right rib area, vomiting........

When I had my gall bladder removed last October I was told a gall stone couldn't form again because there is no where for it to be made as you now have no gall bladder left. The bile duct also is removed so how can a stone reform and cause pain by blocking it? I don't know your circumstances judiewudie but if you have had gallbladder removal and are still experiencing pain in a similar place it could be due to 'adhesions' which sometimes form in site of an operation. My symptoms began last August - I can only describe the pain as excruitiating, to me it was as though a dagger was stuck just under my rib cage at the front and straight through to under my shoulder blade at the back. The pain intensified when sitting and especially lying down - the only relief I got at night was sleeping propped against a wall! Despite this I was told I would have to wait 9 months for an op. on the NHS. I kept going into hosp., spending a day or two having morphine injections and being sent home, in the end they admitted me as an emergency and thankfully operated. They found over a dozen gallstones and kept one for me which is unbelievably the size of a pigeon's egg! I now am fully recovered - I wouldn't wish gallstone pain on anyone. Well thanks for your support but its my brother in law that has the problem! Me I get funny things like macular holes in my eye and a trigger thumb .... I expect you are going to ask "What's that?" ...

sorry judiewudie but I had quick at maular holes on an internet site and it sounds bad but please don't come near me with a gun in your with that trigger finger as I value my life for all it is worth and believe me that is not much

The macular hole has been operated on, head down on a pillow for two weeks, gas bubble in back of eye etc. etc. Local anaesthetic with jungle juice, believe it or not. Amazing. Back to Moorfields this week, but I have been told the hole has closed up now. Trigger thumb op in two weeks ... whatever next ??

Funny enough no pain whatsoever in the eye but thumb sore !!
