pain in throat
6 Answers
Occasionally when im eating (especially when im bolting my food,or eating white bread) i get a sharp pain deep in my throat that feels like something sharp(like a home made chip, or a pin), is stuck it. Each time i swallow, the pain intensifies and feels like its getting higher(ie nearer my tongue) until it reaches a "crescendo" and then subsides to leave me with an extremely sore throat for about a week. I have looked everywhere for an explanation as its very frightening(the pain makesme feel im choking),and very sore. i thought i was allergic to white bread but its happened recently with other food too. Any help/advice appreciated-thankyou

I suffered from this quite frequently for several years, and thankfully it only happens very rarely these days. I totally sympathise with you emuchops. When it happens to me, it feels like there is something stuck in my throat, which then moves about a bit, making me start to vomit. Once it happened when I was eating a salad sandwich and I can only think it was a pieceof cucumber which got stuck - I then started to vomit blood which wasn't nice at all. Yes - the sore throat can last for a long time too, and it isn't like any other sort of sore throat. Nothing helps to ease it, and it is kind of like a stabing pain when you swallow. One thing I have found that helps is to NEVER turn your head to the left or right, just keep looking stright ahead when you swallow. Eating slowly doesn't stop it, I think it is just that the way you swallow gets out of pattern and eating fast might just increase the frequency of this. Always make sure you eat food that is quite moist - ie not dry toast or crispbread as this can be a problem. But the never turning your head as you swallow ruls is the best advice I can offer! Also - never eat standing up, and you also tend to move your head when doing this. Hope this is helpful to you? msemma x
