tooth extraction
8 Answers
i am so :-( i had my tooth extracted (lower tooth 2nd to back and a big double tooth) extracted on Wednesday - due to infection after infection. Anyway i am soooo down every time i look at the hole i cry. It's such a big hole and it hurts and i am scared that it will get all infected. I am on antibiotics as there was a bit of an infection already there - How long before it will all feel normal. They say i can't have a bridge until 3 months later - and then what if the tooth next door has moved or fallen out from it all. Such a nightmare :-(

Try and rest properly, drink lots of water and I'm sure you will be feeling much more positive about the whole thing soon.
If your dentist is talking about bridges it seems highly likely you will be able to have a bridge. Don't worry about it unless you are told otherwise.

Thanks Ethel :-) yeah i didnt think of that, i guess if the dentist has mentioned bridges etc. Its just i went to a NHS dentist and it was all so get me in and throw me out. I left in tears with blood pouring down my face and was in such a state. I know i am over reacting but i just feel so miserable. Anyway sure be ok - if a week or two :-) xx
the mouth is generally a quick healer so i am sure you will be fine in no time. I did have to get quite a large tooth removed and the dentist recommended swirlling salty water about in my mouth to help with the healing. Not the most pleasant but if you have a glass normal water there too it will be fine. I certainly felt fine after a few days that can only assume the salt water helped. Try not to be down focus on something else and be thankful no more infections - take care
Oh no!! I have an infection in my gum at the minute, from a hole that was in my back double tooth. I had had no trouble (or visits to the Dentist) for 19 years and now the pain is killing me. I'm totally phobic about dentists and I've had to go to the D 3x this week coz nothing is working. I just wanted to say "rip it ouit" but now I've seen your post Surreygirl, I'm more scared than ever. I've never felt so miserable in my life, and wish I could focus on something else! The pain! The pain! I think I'll try the salt water. All I want to do is sleep. I've had nothing to eat since Wednesday. Sorry, I'm not normally like this. Sorry to have jumped on your post.

Hey Misky - serious you are better off having it taken out. i too have a big phobia about dentists - hence why my teeth are in such a state these days. But at the end of the day when you are in so much pain (and i know where you are coming from there) then removal is the best option. i also find Nurofen plus helps - although makes me so dosey.
Let me know how you get on and as for me i am just having a bad day lol and a moan and feeling all alone etc... Hence my msg on here i am usually a bit more upbeat. I dont agree with antibiotics too well either, they make me very sick and ill - take care ok and the dentist knows best at the end of the day - also if you are in serious pain maybe go to the dr and see if they can give you stronger painkillers :-) xx

Hey this may make you feel better - i am so scared of the dentist and around 2 years ago i had a real bad tooth (lower 2nd from back same as urs) and it got so bad i got an absess under it which made me have a lump on my chin, i went to the emergency dentist who put me on antibiotics to make the swelling go down and told me to come back in a week to have it pulled. I turned up a week later...they were about to inject me and i ran out scared! in the end i found a dentist that would put me to sleep for it...so i went there and ended up needing both lower 2nd from back teeth pulled! and havent been back since. the holes fill in after about 2 weeks and now they are just hard healthy gums!i am so glad i had them pulled and will not be going back to have anything else put in as i feel that if i have anything done then its something else to go wrong lol! anyways dont worry yourself theyll heal up just fine :)
Hi Surreygirl30 I am so sorry you have had a bad experiance with your teeth and the dentist.Nowaday the dentists are a lot better, honest.! My dentist hates it if he hurts you and unlike some dentists rarely find anything wrong when I go for checkups. But you needn't wory you will be feeling better soon. Once the antibiotics get into you and start to work you will feel a lot better. The hole fills in really well after about week or so. Try very hard though to not keep sticking your tongue into it, as this only makes it sore. Dont forget to rinse it out like the dentist told you to. Tomorrow is another day and I am sure you will feel 10 times better than now. love take care. Brenda x
Hello Everyone!!
I am currently at Work at an Emergency Dental Service!!!! Don't worry all of you.... Infections can be sorted and so can Teeth that need to be Extracted. We advise our Patients that they can take Ibroprufen and Paracetamol together, providing you are not Allergic to either or on any Medication that means you cannot take Painkillers.
I really feel for you Surreygirl, but as said in Posts, Warm Salty Water should help and make sure you eat and drink properly, especially if you are Antibiotics.
