It is unlikely. All health organisations have strict protocols to deal with this type of event in the form of risk assessments and management proceedure should this event occur. I had a needlestick injury whilst nursing (pricked myself with a used syringe), I implemented the protocol to deal with this, which involved me making the site bleed by squeezing and me asking the person, whose syringe it, was their past sexual and lifestyle history (which was bizarre as she was 80 years old, but you never know!). I also had to attend A & E and have additional injections. I was fine, although it was quite distressing at the time.
