How to stop coughing
6 Answers
I've picked up a persistent hacking cough which doesn't respond to the usual medications, yet I never cough in my sleep. So,is there anything I can do to "trick" my body during the day into convincing it that I'm asleep i.e. body relaxation, breathing exercises that might stop triggering the cough?

Have had the cough since December 30th and my husband's got it too, so we have to time our conversations in between the "coughing gaps". We're glugging hot lemon & honey and going to bed with hankies dabbed with Olbas vapour drops put on them, which helps the breathing and stuffy block-up nose, but doesn't stop the coughing unfortunately..
I've had this problem for years, thicknes(mucus) in the throat, non productive etc.Always hacking and coughing, in the day time, not at night! Lungs clear... As a last resort my gp thought it might be allergy related and suggested tablets for the relief of. Rather than going back to gp all the time, I now buy Piriton or Piriteeze (spelling?) from Boots which have the same ingredients as those gp prescribed. But they are a bit pricey. Equally effective are Tescos own brand of anti allergy tablets, but make sure they heve the right ingredients and are non drowsy. They work for me .Shirleyc1941
