How to stop snoring?

I snore terribly and have tried those nasal strips and sprays, but to no avail, they make no impact on my snoring. I'm awaiting a referral to a sleep clinic, but in the meantime, does anyone know of any effective methods to stop or dampen down my snoring?

I've also heard there is a treatment using a laser, which can cure the problem. Has anyone heard of this or had it done?

As you are being referred to a sleep clinic, it's possible your doc is thinking that you may be suffering from sleep apnoea. If that is the case, one thing you can try is sleeping on your side - put pillows, cushions or rolled up towels beside your back to help stop you from turning over onto your back while sleeping (you need to tuck them in pretty close though). If you smoke, cut down or stop altogether, and if you are overweight, get some sensible dietary advice and shed some of the excess.

When you do get to the sleep clinic, they will ask you questions about your sleep, check your BMI and possibly fit you out with a CPAP device and monitoring kit to do a sleep study. If the they do do a sleep study and find that you suffer from sleep apnoea, they will give you a CPAP device to take home and use. For around 90% of people who can get on with that infernal machine (I was one of those who couldn't :-) ), that's pretty much that.

Well I asked my doctor to refer me, as I thought I may have Sleep Apnoea, I'm hoping I don't, as the thought of using a CPAP for the rest of my sleeping life, is not a nice thought. My ex boyfriend had to use one and he reminded me of Darth Vader, not a very attractive sight.

I am a little overweight at the moment, but even when I was very slim, I still snored loudly, so much so, the noise sometimes woke me up. It wasn't a problem then as I lived alone, but now I'm with my partner, he rarely gets a good night sleep. I've tried to sleep on my side, but always seem to end up back on my back. I don't smoke and I don't drink alcohol either.
The One Show did a bit about snoring and said that it is important to find out what kind of snorer you are, and then decide on the right type of treatment to suit.

lol ... Well the CPAP I had was forever waking my wife up as I moved around - when the mask slipped the air blowing through would whistle - and she'd wake me up to fix the mask back in place !

Eventually the sleep clinic referred me to the dental clinic at the hospital. The dental people built a kind of brace for me to wear at night and I got on much better with that, though my jaw muscles did ache a bit in the mornings for a while. The brace works for me because of the way my lower jaw is - I have a fairly big overbite (it's a family thng) and the brace forces my lower jaw forward and that allows the airways to be open enough to fix the sleep apnoea. It also means a snore a bit less too - at least that's what my wife tells me.

I suffered badly from snoring. It too used to wake me up. I went to a sleep clinic to see if I had sleep apnoeia. Luckily I hadnt. The doctor found I had very narrow nasal passages so I had an operation to widen them. I have to say that it worked to a certain extent. I am told I still snore but nothing like I used to. I get a good nights sleep and I sleep with my wife again. My snoring had been so bad I was banished to the spare bedroom. Whatever you decide to do I wish you the best of luck

Loose weight
Avoid alcohol
Practice good sleep hygiene
Open nasal passages
Change your pillows

Yup. I snore very louder. In fact, all the men in my family snore very loudly and badly. On overnight flights, I've told the airline attendant, as well as my seatmates, to simply wake me if I start to snore.

I know this is not a good idea which work for a long time. I need to find out some alternative to get ride from this snoring to lead a sound sleep at night. Then one of my close seatmate told me to use Asonor, which is effectively work on me. And whatever he said was correct, anti snoring device really work on me. Of-course Asonor is one of the best anti snoring device for me.
