Pain in my buttock

Hi i have had a pain in my right Buttock since last Thursday , It started as a niggling back pain but within a few hours i was in agony , I also have like a pulling pain sometimes in calf on the same side , The pain is so uncomfortable im limping and finding it really painful to walk about , Has anyone any idea what it can be and what i can do to help myself , Thank you in advance

The pain area experienced will depend on the branch of the sciatic nerve affected. Do you remember lifting/twisting awkwardly on that day? It could be a slightly bulging disc. Sometimes this rights itself but does occasionally need intervention.

thanks Yogasun , I have been doing a lot of walking and exercising the last six weeks , I forgot to say i also have a bruise on the base of my spine ( no idea how i did it ) no i haven't seen a dr it takes at least a week to get a appointment in my surgery then its a waste of time , Every thing is a virus with my Gp's
We must be fortunate here as you can see your GP on the same day. I know what you mean about saying it's a virus but there's no way he/she can say that about this.
It may gradually ease on its own, if it doesn't you will need to see someone. Have you got a McTimoney chiropractor in your area? Their approach is more gentle. If it doesn't get better you may need an X ray or MRI scan.
Sciatica is a funny thing, it can disappear and then flare up when the nerve is irritated. Good luck.
