Does anyone have any personal experience of this contraceptive? I have been on Dianette for 7 years and my GP is reluctant to keep prescribing it. I have read plenty, good and bad, so just really want some opinions of real people!

I took Diannette for 8 yrs until I happened to see a locum (sp?) doctor. She told me that because it is prescribed for people acne (like I had) or excessive facial hair, heavy and painful periods etc.. it should only be taken to clear these problems up and that I should have switched years ago!! She really worried me and said I should have a liver function test and allsorts!! I changed to Marvelon and really couldnt tell any difference.
I sometimes find it worrying that two doctors can have completely different opinions though.

lollyone that is what my doc said, it should be changed when symptoms are gone and it is much riskier to health than most other contraceptives.
Im going to take a break from the pill for a few months and see how my body reacts, I used to suffer from bad acne and painful, heavy periods. If it has cleared up I might just stay off the pill altogether.
Thanks all for your answers.

I've come off the pill altogether now to try for a baby and my acne has come back with avengance. Its actually worse now than when I was a teen and was prescribed the pill for this in the 1st place! See how you get on without it or you could just shift to a different one. I'm 28 and after coming off the pill almost a year ago my periods have still not returned! (regularly anyway) I've sworn off it altogether now too. Hope all goes well with you.
