This stuff wont knock you out but it will get you to sleep..
Its called Rescue Night and cost about 5.00.
You put a few drops on your tongue before you go to bed.
Ive used it since I stopped drinking wine every night, as that made me sleep.
They also do one for tension etc, which you can take in the daytime, which is just called rescue.
Its available at most Pharmacy's.

ive tried all sorts of herbal remedies, with not a lot of success.... i have found a homeopathic remedy called nelsons noctura and i find them really really good. i used to have trouble getting off, sometimes taking hours, and then would wake as much as every 20 mins but im only waking once or twice a night now. as with the other remedies, they dont particularly 'knock you out' though.
I find Valerian a very hit and miss sleep aid, i have come home from work taken valerian with hot milk cos they say milk is good for sleep and even grated nutmeg over it cos another reccommendation was nutmeg, what a load of bull didnt make any difference! it depends sometimes how you are feeling mentally! might try the nelsons though!
I take the Valerian tablets, they taste and smell like sick, but they have been helping. I think a lot of it might be psycological, but I am sleeping better at night. Before I'd lay awake for hours and then wake up every few hours during the night. Now I find getting to sleep much easier, sleep throughout the night and wake up earlier, but don't feel as sleepy. I think they are worth a try, but seriously they do taste disgusting!!
Also someone on here told me a good tip of saying goodnight to each part of your body. Start with your toes and work your way up, relaxing each part of your body as you go. Sounds strange, but does help you relax and feel sleepy. Hope you find something soon gucciman, I know what it's like to be up all night - xx
