I would like to know if anybody knows what WD 40 stands for. The Oil lubricant, I have heard it was invented in world war 2 by the war department in1940. The other was it was named because it took 40 goes to get it right.
Anybody any ideas?

Your second suggestion is essentially correct according to the company... "the name "WD-40" originated in 1953 when the product was first developed. The company, originally known as the "Rocket Chemical Company", was trying to design a protectant for metal parts on rockets to prevent rust and corrosion by displacing water... hence the "WD" for water displacement.

The "40", on the other hand, indicates that the formula (still in use today, by the by) was the 40th attempt to get it right! And they did. Talk about persistence!"...

duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn�t, you need duct tape. And if it doesn�t move and it should, you need WD40

Is this a new problem she has, or the same one thing lasts too long and the other doesn't last long enough problem :)

Hi Folks,

WD40 is an excellent product BUT, it is not an oil and should never be used as an oil. If something requires oiling then use "3 In One" or a similar oil.

After using WD 40 on an item that required "freeing" it should be lubricated with an oil.
