I have suffered from recurrent migraines for the last year and around 6 months ago I was prescribed Propanolol. I was on a low dose but my GP has put me on to Amitriptyline today.

Has anybody had this medication for the same reason, if so please can you tell me how you got with it?

Thanks!

Hi grumpy
I do know that this med is often used in small doses for pain. I really have no idea what the side effects are, but with most drugs, they all can have side effects. It really depends on each individual.
Hope does help you. x

Thank you, so do I. It is scary but I suppose I will just have to take the medication like a good girl for a change lol! The next stage is a drug that sounds like valperide.
It can help with chronic pain, they tried to get me to go on it for meniere's and migraines but I was put off it and didn't end up taking it.

Am wondering if that was a bad idea though as getting lots of migraines so no harm in giving it a try.
I have been taking Amitriptyline for about 3 years now for migraines. The thing with this medication is that if you are still having migraines after taking it for about 6 weeks, go and see your doctor and get the dosage increased. I started off with one which worked for a while, then upped it to two and now I am on three per day and it is working well. I have tried nearly all mirgaine treatments as I have been suffering from them for 15 years and this really works.
