11 months Sick leave
I would really appreciate some advice on this;
A girl at the company I work for was on the verge of getting disciplinary action taken against her when she suddenly went of sick. Its been 11 months now, she's been back a total of about 10 day in these 11 months.
She brings sick notes in with 1 of 4 sicknesses stated but none yet diagnosed as every few months she alternates between sicknesses.
We all know she's taking advantage because she has a public profile on social network where she writes about going partying and having fun with her boyfriend, One of her sick notes stated depression yet on her profile she writes about being happy and loving life.
What makes it worse is she's just been given a bonus for doing 12 months hard work!
Our management don't seem to be doing anything and we just want to know if our company can do anything about the game she's playing as we feel we are being taken advantage of.

If you are her manager or in HR then why are you asking this question?
Anyway, it is up to the company what kind of sick leave they give people, and how long it is before they satrt asking her to see occupational health (or do you know all about her consultations too?) o start asking her to meet with them about whether she will be able to continue in her job. In short, yes, she can be asked to leave if by nature of illness she cannot carry out her job, but only if the company/organisation want to do it.

i also wonder how you know so much about her medical appointments that you know these illnesses are undiagnosed? Are you a doctor? were you there when her doctor is writing a sick note for her?
I am just trying to say, please dont make assumptions about peoples illness or health if you really dont know. people with illneses might not want to put their status as "is feeling so down and depressed" in order not to wallow. i went on holiday last year when i was off sick, but i wouldn't have been able to work because i was so high on painkillers i wouldnt have been able to function., yet people dont see that ... they see that i went on holiday, so i must be ok, right?

This is ridiculous. Time for some whistle-blowing if you are up for it. If the employer knows about it, it is crass management. If the employer does not about it, she should have been dismissed for capability by now.
It just undermines other employees' efforts.
Not working in the public sector by any chance, are you?
