Someone I know is taking steriods for Crohns ( 17 grams or milligrams - it's 17 something per day ) and now they are also taking Mercaptopurine.

I thought you were suppose to take that instead of the steriods not as well as.

I am concerned ( I looked on wikiedia about Mercaptopurine and it seems pretty harsh ) but I can't really ask them. Has anyone any experience

Both of these drugs would be prescribed by his GP, probably as ordered by the consultant.

It is not uncommon to take the two together for Crohns and UC.
i agree (again!) with ethel. Also, if people are coming off steroids, its often practice to have the other drug running at the same time till it is working at full capacity then to satrt to reduce the steroids
