gas poisoning?
5 Answers
i have been really ill all year and after lengthy stay in hospital and many visits to consultants, they still cant find the cause.
i am a healthy happy woman and this has all had terrible effects on me and my confidence.
anyway, the long and the short of it is that there was a big gas leak at work a couple of weeks ago. this has now been resolved, however i have been saying for months about an "eggy" smell coming and going in my office. i have felt miles better since the leak has been fixed.
does anyone know how and where i can obtain a test to see if it was gas inhalation causing me to be ill. i have read somewhere that a test on the hair can be done but i cannot find any more information about this.
anyone wiht any info please let me know, i am so desparate for peice of mind so that i can move on and get on with my life
thanks

thanks so much for replies
i have googled it but not really found anything useful but will keep trawling though :)
the symptons have been fairly common ones unfortunately. it started with severe headaches lasting for days, dizziness and sickness and my gp told me i had high blood pressure and put me on tablets. also, extreme tiredness and complete lack of energy and no desire to eat or drink (i think i went a week without food while in hospital) the symptons did not subsist so he kept increasing dosage but eventually blood pressure went extremely low and i was admitted to hospital then. symptoms stayed the same the whole time but at varying degrees - sometimes vomitting or heaving, other times just sickness, sometimes i felt like me head was going to explode with pain - the dizziness was scarey which has led to the lack of confidence i think you know like gong out on my own in case i fall over !! also, my neck and face came out in red spots for about a week
have been checked for meningitis and altho the symptoms are similar, they have ruled this out.
any other comments would be great
thanks :)

Have you read this?

I suggest you discuss the possibility with your GP. Were you the only one working in your office?

thanks for your help with this
such an intersting article - had not read that particular one but have come across many similar. in fact, i did buy a carbon monoxide detector and took it into work just to make sure. i think the difference here is that i was getting, what i can only describe as, burst of eggy smells in my office.
I have my own office at work and have always been concious of the smell, i often used to open my window when i could smell it and give the room a good spray..!
i think you're right, i will go to GP and insist on a test for it. i have mentioned it to the consultants a couple of times but they have simply brushed it aside and i also mentioned it to the plumber who came to my office to see the gas leak (i didnt tell him any symptons just what i could smell and asked could be it some kind of gas) and his exact response was "no, i dont think so" and that was that.!!
thank you so much again for your help
