Can anyone answer this for my mum? Shs often suffers from cramp in her legs ... usually after eating ... although she tries not to sit still for long she still gets it ....... is there a reason for this and what can be done to avoid it?

i used to suffer with leg cramps all the time when i was pregnant, i assume your mam is not pregnant but my midwife said the main reason for leg cramps was not enough calcium in your body. She recommended a mug of horlicks a day and ive not had a leg cramp since!

Gbradfield your answer made me laugh ..... mum is nearly 63, so hopefully not about to produce a sibling for me (only child and at 35 the prospect of a brother or sister is slightly spooky!!) But the answer about calcium is very useful ... I had hear this said and it's good to hear this has worked for someone .... I will get her a jar!!
The quinine in tonic water alleviates cramp - suggest she drinks a glass of tonic water daily ( with or without the gin!!)

go with the above posts - a milky drink is an old fashioned remedy for night cramps. Also, lack of salt can cause cramps.
Don't ask me how it works but I find if I put a metal spoon where the cramp is in my leg it goes away which is why there is always a spoon by my bed
Eating too many bananas can also cause cramp in some people.
