I had 3 lumps removed and when I had the 3 mammograms it was different each time. I was given a leaflet afterwards (a bit more detail then the one given at the usual mamograms) and the staff said they weren't allowed to say anything. From my experience they sometimes arrange other tests but that doesn't mean they are necessarily cancerous.

I guess it depends in the clinic you've been referred to and the urgency of any referral and risk factors.
It probably also depends on who you see and what they make of the results.
I've had two scares where I've been referred to the local breast clinic (once on an urgent cancer referral) where I've been examined by a breast surgeon, had a fine needle biopsy then sent for a scan (too young for a mammogram to pick things up properly).
On the first occasion I had to ring for the results some time later whereas on the second occasion they had me wait at the hospital and come back a couple of hours later for the results.
Both times it was a harmless fibrous adenoma.

i've had about 20 breast lumps over the last 15 years. it's been my experience that you first have the mammogram and then are sent for an ultrasound. if the lump is a cyst, as in my case, the cyst is removed there and then with a needle, job done.
they're very kind in breast clinics, and know that you'll be very anxious. just keep asking about anything you're not sure of. good luck.
