it depends. you have to wait for some basic results and they may refer you for other tests.. it depends on your hospital how it runs.

best of luck anyway. most lumps are harmless x
Try not to worry know that is easier said than done.

I had 3 lumps removed and when I had the 3 mammograms it was different each time. I was given a leaflet afterwards (a bit more detail then the one given at the usual mamograms) and the staff said they weren't allowed to say anything. From my experience they sometimes arrange other tests but that doesn't mean they are necessarily cancerous.
and all the leaflets I got were from Cancer Research! not very reassuring, but that doesn't reflect on your result :o)

Well, Im trying not to worry, but i am concerned!!!!!
Sara that's awful - doesn't help does it? Mine I have to say weren't they were like what would happen next etc etc

peachey, take someone with you if you want to. and take a good book.. I'll bet you'll be waiting a long time.

come back and tell me how you got on x
I guess it depends in the clinic you've been referred to and the urgency of any referral and risk factors.

It probably also depends on who you see and what they make of the results.

I've had two scares where I've been referred to the local breast clinic (once on an urgent cancer referral) where I've been examined by a breast surgeon, had a fine needle biopsy then sent for a scan (too young for a mammogram to pick things up properly).

On the first occasion I had to ring for the results some time later whereas on the second occasion they had me wait at the hospital and come back a couple of hours later for the results.

Both times it was a harmless fibrous adenoma.
i've had about 20 breast lumps over the last 15 years. it's been my experience that you first have the mammogram and then are sent for an ultrasound. if the lump is a cyst, as in my case, the cyst is removed there and then with a needle, job done.
they're very kind in breast clinics, and know that you'll be very anxious. just keep asking about anything you're not sure of. good luck.
When my mother found a lump, just over a year ago, she had a Mammogram and a Biopsy of the lump all on the same day. She was then given the results an hour later and booked in for surgery the following week. It was all very prompt and efficient.
