Hello, my daughter in law rang me today saying she woke to find her hands were both swollen and red and painful to touch, anyone know why this should be? Thanks.

I now have to take medication, but I at least know what it is. Saying she won't die is no answer at all. If it continues and she is not happy, she should ask to see someone else.
An antihistamine might be an idea to rule out an allergy though she should check with a chemist if breastfeeding.
If it continues, definitely get it checked out further and push for a referral if needs be as some inflammatory conditions can cause damage if left to carry on untreated.
I get pain, redness and swelling on multiple joints with my arthritis. Some of the redness has never gone away over my ankles.
It took a while for me to get referred, maybe age wise being in my late twenties at the time though having other random swellings (lips and both legs) prompted them to refer me to rhumatology who are fantastic and am now on medication.
