Ear Infection
20 Answers
I have a skin infection in my ear. Sometimes its just itchy and sometimes painful. Or it can disappear completely. The last time I got it I got antibiotics as I was flying a few days later. I never ended up taking the tablets. Now the infection has come back - can I take these now - any ideas

I have to be careful not to monopolize B&S but as you haven't had any answers and we are old friends, I feel that I could attend top your problem without causing too much of a furore.
Now:
Does it itch? ( your ear that is)
Any deafness?
Any discharge? (from your ear that is)
Have you had it before?(the ear problems that is)

peri.....sound very much like otitis externa (Tropical Ear).....Google it.
It is a patch of eczema in the ear canal which from time to time becomes infected and this may cause pain in the ear.
Gentamycin H.C drops should settle it, but not sure whether or not you can get them without a prescription.
Keep me informed eh?

That sounds exactly like it thanks sqad. Have had those drops before but they are slow to work - do you think I could take the anti biotics at all - or should I go to doc and have them syringed also. It's really frustrating that it keeps coming back at me - although the deafness thing can be a bonus at times LOL . It is good to see you back and don't be backwards at coming forwards as they say
I am interested that you advise keeping it in the house, sqad. I didnt think it was supposed to be used that way. But I do make sure I always have Otomize to hand, and tho that is also only available on scrip I always seem to get away with repeat scrips. I doubt if Id be able to do that with Gentamycin H.C.
peri, I too have been a life-long martyr to otitis externa. All those symptoms and more, wecondary infections and all. Otomize seems to keep them at bay if you use it for even less than the prescribed week (?) at the first signs of trouble, and I don't think it's any form of hydrocortisone. Let's see what sqad says about this.

Hah! So it was the pushy Sammy giving you "endless and persistent hassle". Thought so.
I wondered what your wife had done to deserve capital letters, but now I wonder if it was this kitten of whom you said you had been taking HER shopping and breakfast. You'll really have to put your foot down. It's only a kitten for Gawds sake. Should still be satisfyingly squishable!
