i have 5 cats which i know is a lot for a terrace house
4 of them are really well behaved and pee and poo outside and 1 of them pees where she shouldnt occassionally.
my problem is one of them persists in peeing and pooing where she shouldnt usually on the carpets upstairs
i do lover her but she is wrecking the house and making it smell.i dont want visitors to come here and think the house is a s**thole quite frankly
any ideas on how to stop her or do i just have to put up with it til shes gone(shes 8)?
TIA

Try shutting her in a room (without the other cats) and a litter tray periodically throughout the day. When she uses the tray let her out for a few hours, when you think she may need to toilet again put her back in the room with the cleaned litter tray. It might also be worth having her checked over by a vet to rule out illness if this is new behaviour.
To get rid of the smells she has left already you can mix a solution of BIOLOGICAL washing powder/liquid with water and scrub the areas she has messed in with it.

Disinfectant won't work to stop her using the same places to mess in. The enzymes in biological washing powder will break down the smell of urine and faeces completely. It does actually work to stop them re scenting after using disinfectant as well as completely getting rid of the smell instead of covering it up.
You have to persevere with the litter tray method, it won't work immediately. Also don't ever feed your cats in the same room as the litter tray, many cats won't toilet and eat in the same space. I really don't have any other suggestions as the method I descrbed has always worked for me. Maybe other answer bankers will have different ideas.
Good luck.

Is she being threatened? Soiling can be a result of stress. I'd try putting a litter tray where she soils the most, lots of newspaper in and under in case of misses.
Also, mine will never use papaer-based litter pellets - has to be clay, so maybe trying different litter types might help.
That pets supermarket (name evades me) does a really cheap, really effective anti-smell spray.

hmmm.. dont use bleach.. or any strong cleaners like that - they contain ammonia.. which will make her try to cover over the smell with her own even more...
maybe she is protesting at the number of cats in the house.... (not making it up!!! honest) she may be unhappy that there are so many cats living there and so is upset about it.
Try maybe giving her - her own litter tray... so she can go in peace and quiet somewhere... and try getting hold of a spray called FELIWAY from your vets.
It contains cat phermones - so helps to re-assure an anxious cat
