Oh, and all you guys ...
Splash out a tenner on some dedicated running socks. They have a left and right foot, with support, and abrasion resistance, in the right places for each foot.
If you run in tennis socks, or general sports socks, sooner or later ... you will gat a blister.
(ouch!)

I am losing my arch on my bad foot due to my ankle being screwed up from the break (having some insoles made by the hospital soon). I walk completely different now and badly I might add so I put a lot of strain on my foot and ankle that is completely unhelpful. Im currently looking for some good fashionable shoes for work to keep my ankle supported whilst it still heals - not proving easy!
just in from a walk with my wee dog - and am looking at your advice - when I am next in Belfast will definitely go there to Up and Running. Thanks for your kind advice and also mentioning the socks cos I think you are right when it comes to running you need correct "everything" cant get a word for that hahhaha!!! xxxx
Running socks are a big improvement on ordinary sports socks.
Something they will possibly advise you, which I always find a bit odd, is to buy shoes a size up, because your feet swell when they are hot from running.
The reason I think it's odd is that shoe manufacturers should make shoes that you can run in wearing your own size.
If you're a runner, with size 6 feet, they should make size 6 shoes that you can wear for running ... ie with room for swelling.
But ... they don't.
So you'll probably come away with shoes that are bigger than your normal size. Don't worry ... they will be right for running in.

wow joggerjayne, i started running a couple of years ago, wearing decathlons 9.99 running shoes, they werent very good, so i splashed out on a 40 euro pair, a bit better, then one day bumped into an old mate, who just by chance had bought a pair of running shoes. so i asked him where he got them and the price. 120 euros, i said what??!!! but after a long lecture, i was convinced enough to visit this shop called running house in madrid. what the owner did was ask me to jog gently along a marked part of the shop, he in turn was recording this on his pc, he ended up selling me a pair of Saucony running shoes. i was quite surprised at the difference they made. anyway i noticed the soles are looking worn out, plus i´ve been experiencing pain in my left ankle. wonder if this is a coincidence, i had been walking about 8 miles every day for about 6 months
