Sciatica
23 Answers
From my buttock to my knee the pain is unbearable and I`ve tried Paracetomol, 2 every four hours, and rubbed in Algesal, but nothing seems to work for long, what else can anyone suggest? Sitting at my PC hurts like blazes, so I`ll get back in a while.

Well, if it were me in pain like that, I would try placing some heat (hot water bottle??) in the small of my back to the right hand side just above the buttock where the sciatic nerve is (or so I remember reading somewhere).
It may bring a bit of comfort or it may not but it certainly won't do any harm.
You have my sympathy as I occasionally suffer slight problems with Sciatica but nothing as bad as yours.
I understand that rest is also beneficial in order to give the nerve time to heal itself.

My thanks to all replies, I cant have MRI scans because of a prosthetic heart valve and pacemaker and I do try heat appliances to my buttock and leg and soft cushions and now two walking sticks to reduce my weight, so it looks like another visit by my GP as it`s too far a walk to where my car is parked.
I've said before that I too suffer from sciatica and a bad back. I've spent hundreds upon hundreds of different products but the only one that helps for me carlton is something I got free with my new TENS machine. It's called BIOFREEZE. Yeah I know what your'e thinking, you've tried all the sprays - but this one actually works.
If you need more info please ask, hope you feel better this morning :-(

I too suffer from sciatica, from buttock to ankle and in the small of my back, sometimes to the extent of falling to the floor with no prior warning at all.Ibuprofen helps me, but of course you can't take it, but I do find that sitting at the PC brings on an attack, so I have an egg timer beside me which goes off every 10 -15mins. to remind me to go walkabout. It is amazing how the times flies on here, and since doing that I don't seem to have half as many attacks.I suppose it is a repetitive strain injury because of the way I am sitting. I have tried several chairs, cushions etc. but moving around helps the most.Maybe not at the moment for you, but something to bear in mind when you are over this attack. You have my sympathy carlton, hope you are better soon, rosy.
