It's just come on, it sounds like when you pour out a glass of fizzy pop, but I can hear it inside my left ear - I do have problems with ear wax (nice!) but haven't had this before...
Hi Hopkirk, no I haven't put anything in, just sat here watchin TV, then it just came on. My hearing is normally dull anyway, due to wax I think, but this has only come on in the last few mins...
I've had the same for about 2 years now. I've had a general anaesthetic so they could have a good poke around and they found nothing. Tinnitus was the final conclusion. Hate to have to say it but it sounds like you've got it. You Do get used to it.
I have NEVER heard tinnitus described as "fizzing" and in my opinion it is not tinnitus.
Unless you can describe it a little more accurately, I have to say that it does sound like something in the outer ear such as wax. See you GP who will look in. No big deal.
Morning. I've no idea Halifaxmum why they sent me for an MRI.
Tinnitus has many sort of "sounds" sqad, from a "whoosh" to a "drone" to a "sssss". I've got he "sssssss" all the time. There is a web site that lets you hear all the different sounds that can occur. I'll have a look for it and post it on here Halifaxmum.
Halifax...OK the "fizzy pop" is actually a high pitched noise which makes all the difference in the world.
If you have tinnitus in one ear and impaired hearing in the same ear, then you need to see your doctor with a view to a referral to an ENT surgeon.
As chrissa says, if there is no problem with the outer ear e.g..wax, then you may well need an MRI scan.
squad, what can be done about those problems? i was under the impression (certainly for myself) that it's just age related and have never mentioned either the tinnitus or the slight loss of hearing in the same ear, to my gp.
It may well be age related in which case the tinnitus is bilateral (both ears), but if it is unilateral ( one ear only) with impaired hearing on the same side, then one, by MRI scanning, needs to exclude an acoustic neuroma.
Oh thanks sqad. That's why I was given one!! At least they found a brain, ha ha. I onle have it in one ear and it's much much worse after watching/listening to X Factor - too much screaming and cheering.
I was going to ask what kind of fizzing as I get weird noises and sensations in my ear, more like rice krispies popping though I can "feel" it a bit too if that makes sense?
I always put it down to being part of the tinnitis, get the annoying frequency noise too. I get a lot of pressure in my ears too (have menieres) so maybe it's related to that, kind of like when your ears pop but in very quick succession and can go on for ages.
Definitely go and get them checked out if it continues. Have you had anything happen which might have set it off like getting water or anything in your ears or been exposed to something really loud or got a cold coming on?
