Today is the 3rd day my 6yr old has had a temp (up to 39). She says she has a sore throat but I can't see anything yucky in it which looks like tonsillitus. Once medicine works she is ok but not herself. I don't know whether its worth taking her to GP as they will more than likely say its a virus and won't be able to do anything. What do others think?

Sorry sqad....my mistake.....Day 3......if tommorrow was a week day, my reply would be different. Its not, so thats why i've answered as i have.

You are probably right as you ARE the Doc, and i fully respect that........but just giving an overall parental assessment..........and i like to debate with you, you lovable old todger. :0)
yogi.....LOL

annie......I respect your reply, but what is the relevance to the case of tigwigs child?
Sqad

Certainly worth a visit to establish a diagnosis.

And..... i rest my case, good sir :0)

(Have a great weekend, squiddly)
quad. the relevance,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ti
gwig
should go by her own instincts with regards to her child health .imo.
relevance is that things are not always what they appear to be and that if the doctor had seen the child sooner there may have been a better outcome.
if tigwig was sure that her child was fine and didn't need the doctor then she would not have posted.
änne.......you have me beaten.....I dont understand your post.
tigwig, if the spikes in high temp are getting further apart and there are no other signs of any illness (sore throat can come with a cold) then if it was my child I would see it as a sign that they are improving and not worry about sharing germs in a busy doctors surgery.

But thats just what Id do with mine.
well quad i have stated it twice.............im sorry you dont understand.
Tigwig,

Whatever you decide, i do hope your daughter gets better soon........and if you dont take her today, and she still has the same symptoms over the weekend, and you're worried, please call NHS direct or take her to casualty to be checked out.

And Annie's not wrong, sqad....tigwig came on here for advice, as she's unsure what to do in this case for her daughter. I would already have an appt made imo.

Anneasquith is also correct....so what to do?........the decision is with tigwig.
redcrx.....blimey...some support !!!!!!

annie../.anne..right.......
sqad, you dont need support :) you can tough it out
How much have you paid redcrx, sqad........eh?.....lol
Yogi.......I dint say that annie was wrong........I said what has annies example got to do with tigwigs case.
Pharmacists are a much underused resource..........

When jth, jnr was small, I was fortunate enough to have a small Chemists Shop directly across the road............I'd pop across, tell Mr Shah what the problem was and take his advice.
annie, i think, answered you at her post at 12.00, sqad....the relevance is that things sometimes are not what they seem to be etc.
maybe not sqad, what I was trying to say was that things are not always what they appear both in my sons and my friends case - you don't go to the doctor because you think it isn't worth bothering them, but sometimes things aren't what they appear to be and in hindsight it would have been better to go - it doesn't sound on the face of it that tigwig has any need to be particularly concerned, but she was worried enough to seek advice here.
JTH is right.......i know two local pharmacist's who are brilliant also, and always has time for a consultation, if the need arises. :0)
ÓK let´s look at the facts........6yr old child, ill for 3 days with maximum temp of 39degC, with minimal throat signs and symptoms, no other symptoms as described by a sensible and positive outlook, treated with Calpol has received 38 posts.

tigwig.......I did warn you from the start that I would be in deep trouble.......LOL
lol.......you are indeed in deep do-do's, squiddly :0)

and 40 posts now methinks.
