the barron - I have suffered from a racing heart all of my life. I think these days they call it a heart arrhythmia. (Isn`t that what Tony Blair had a while ago)? Sometimes my heartbeat is twice as fast as it should be (particularly when I`m stressed). I think there is some sort of treatment (electrical intervention) See if your GP can refer you to someone

I developed an ectopic heartbeat.

I cut out caffeine, and increased my exercise levels.
That may not be what cured it, but it has gone now.

Oh, also I used to do shift work with quite a lot of night shifts and unusual sleep patterns.

Now I do a job with days only, and good night time sleep. That may also be the cure for me.

Slowly cut down the caffeine. Don't stop suddenly if you drink a lot of it.

Racing heart...tachycardia..................many, many causes.
Is it regular, irregular, regularly irregular or irregularly irregular?
You will need ECG, Ultrasound and probably echocardiogram.
No point in speculating until you have had these investigations.
