I slipped over a couple of weeks ago and knocked my hand, my little finger is still swollen and has a lump at the side of the top joint which is painful...could my finger be broken or is it just sprained?
Thankyou,C.

Whichever it is, it is purely of academic importance as their is nothing to be done now. Ibuprofen will relieve the pain, but just monitor the situation over the next year.

Thankyou for your reply Squad.I know there is not much if anything you can do for broken fingers..but it's also nice to know....just interested as to why I should monitor it over the next year?

ell, if the swelling persists and the pain it MAY indicate the development of local traumatic arthritis, which MAY need some medical ateention.

Much too early to tell at the moment, but in 12 months........who knows?
I knackered my finger on Friday night Clematis. It is horribly swollen and black. I am living on ibuprofen and wine (but not at the same time). It really hurts. you have my sympathy. You could try strapping it to the next finger. The only benefit I have found with that is that you don't forget you have a knackered finger and try and use it.
