Does "a good cry" really work?
35 Answers
I remember being told it as a kid - have a good cry and get it out, but does it really help?
Things are going rubbish at the mo, and I feel like I'm teetering...maybe a good old cry at a soppy film would help?
TIA x

Bednobs...endorphins are not going to touch your pain but crying is probably releasing a little of the pressure for you... there will be days and probably not that far away when you won't have cried but you won't realise at the time but you will look back and think yeah I think I'm doing ok... the sadness will change.. guess its still really raw right now.... and nothing any of us can say will make it feel any less...Nothing closes those holes in your life... you just learn to live without falling through them.
When I lost my beloved Grandma some years ago, I was a mess. I kept going over and over her death in my head and couldn't come to terms with it. Then suddenly one night the floodgates opened and I sobbed, cried, yelled until I couldn't any more. After that the healing started, so I would say yes, a good cry does you the world of good. It isn't the end, but it's the beginning of the end.
Thanks all for your kind words x
Steve - you sound just like my son :)
Old G - oh I'm good at bottling it up and doing it in private!
salla - it's been a rough few years - kids getting badly bullied, losing jobs, having depression, gynae problems, splitting from long-term partner, losing my hair and being abandoned (for the 2nd time) by my birth mother. To top it all, I was attacked on Sunday evening by a group of men.
sorry, you did ask! lol...think it'll be a bottle of Lidl Chenin Blanc and a sad film for me tonight.

salla - thanks, but I don't have anyone - my adoptive parents both died when I was a kid and my adoptive brother and sister don't have any contact. I don't get on with my step-mother.
Friends are all (unfortunately) fair-weather.
I've not been to the GP as all that happened was two of the men held my arms and another gave me a dead leg (and I have asked Sqad about it!) so there's nothing the GP can do.
Sorry for being such a moaning old cow
