Sad Day
48 Answers
I'm feeling very sad today. Yesterday I had to have Sally my Border Collie put to sleep. She was 13 and a half and hadn't been well for some time but it was still a shock. She collapsed in the night and the vet thinks she had a small bleed in the brain. The house is so quiet and I keep having a little weep! I shall get another one eventually but that not helping right now!

I've been poorly and couldn't exercise my doggies so they've been down on the farm I missed them dreadfully when they're not with me. I'm dreading the time when my dad's dog, Skip, an ex working dog and Border collie goes, she's getting on for 16 now, an old lady, when he's at home at the farm, she's his shadow.
You did a very brave and kind thing for your dog, and she's not suffering, she knows that she was well loved. Give yourself time to grieve a little, then you'll know when the time is right to get another.

So sad, but you did the only thing you could. You must have some lovely memories. I have three oldies, and I doubt all three will see this year out. One in particular decided not to go for a walk last night, he sleeps a lot and when the others were ready to go out he just lifted his head up in his bed and then settled back down as if to say, you go, I'll give it a miss tonight.
Linedancer, border collies are something special arent they, as of course any pets. This one in my pic is my second one. My old one was 16, and I said I didnt want another, as it would never match up to the first one. Two weeks later I was pushed into getting this odd little puppy. She is a beautiful friend, ball obsessed, full of fun, and four years old now. I feel for you, I really do. I was actually grateful that my son persuaded me to get another so quickly, it did help me get over losing the first one. Big hugs to you, we do understand.
Oh, linedancer, I feel for you. The emptiness is hard to bear. My beloved Lab/collie collapsed and had to be put to sleep over two years ago. I have her photo as my screensaver, so in a way, she's still with me every day.
I have another Lab/collie, a rescue, and every day she's becoming more and more llike a clone of my last dog.

It is 18 months since I had to have my faithful Lab put to sleep. I still miss him and there are always things to remind me of him every day as he was so clever. This might help.
Cherish the memories and mourn her for as long as you need, she was your baby and your friend. Be happy in the knowledge that you'll see her again at Rainbow Bridge.
Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge - .
"When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigour. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…"
