Pain below the ribs

Yesterday and elderly lady asked me to wriggle into a cupboard to read the gas meter. I felt a click in the lower ribs but no pain.
Today I felt a sharp jab of pain when changing gear in the car and it is very tender, giving jolt of pain when I twist a certain way. No sign of bruising on the outside. Any clues to what might be the cause?

perhaps you've twisted a muscle ?

Thanks boxie. I guess there must be some running under the ribs that I never knew about.
The muscles between the ribs are called the intercostal muscles, straining them is quite common, you can do so just by coughing.

Many thanks for that daffy. Understanding what is going on is half the battle
A "click" eh?

Sounds ike you have "tweaked" a costochondral joint ( cartilaginous joint between your rib and breastbone).......no big deal.
