do doctors still syringe ears?

  i read here 'once syringed, always syringed' and i've had mine done since i was little, every 3-5 years as has my mum but not my dad or my sister.  i am really blocked and deaf at the moment and using 'earex' but i feel so much better after syringing.  i am flying soon and don't want any problems, also i want to hear the tour guide!

I have my ears syringed every couple of years by the practice nurse.  They have a new electric thingy that vibrates the wax out - but I prefer the water pumping thing.  It's a nice feeling when your ears clear.  And it doesn't hurt a bit.

hobsonbear, I have always suffered with excess ear wax (lovely!) and have always needing a good syringing every few years. My friends all think I'm dead strange as I really look forward to getting them done. The thought of warm water gushing around the inside of your ears makes me go weak at the knees!! It's a really pleasant sensation. I had it done last about 6 months ago so they sure do still do it. Enjoy!

Is this why some people fancy enemas? I've had neither, but the descriptions from Cheesefreek and mats01_99 sound intriguingly similar to those of enemagoers.

Yeah sounds interesting. Do you have to have blocked ears or can normal ears be syringed. I know we all collect a bit of wax over time.

As for enemas, they sound a bit scary, but I am sure getting lots of gunk out of the system is a good thing. I don't think I am going to be Public Enema No1 just yet " Don't, don't believe the pipe".....

I had my ears syringed a couple of times, the last time being just before moving (and changing doc).  A while later I asked the nurse at the new surgery to syringe my ears but she said they no longer do that and suggested Otex instead.  I have also once had my ears "candled" (Hopi ear candles) which helped.  The lady who did this recommended olive oil at skin temperature instead of Otex or other commercial oils.
