Why don't exercise bikes have bench seats?

I am trying to get fit but in spite of fitting a gel filled seat cover, I am unable to stay on it for more than five minutes at a time because it is so uncomfortable.

Any ideas please?

I would think that a bench seat would restrict the users pedalling motion which is why normal bikes don't have them.

However, if you don't want to pedal too furiously maybe this could be a solution:

if yopu stand up while cycling you'll avoid the problem and I heard somewhere it's supposed to be more of a workout for your legs.  Double bonus :)
Could you put a cusion on the seat?
i found this too and i tied a pair of jogging trousers round the seat which gave it an extra bit of padding.
