Sensible shoes ?

I always wear `sensible shoes` for work, for walking for gym etc. Only wear fashion shoes if going out (which isnt very often) but on my way to work this morning, even though its frosty, I saw a woman in high heels, a big woman overspilling in ballerina type shoes with no socks, and a man wearing open sandals. If I were to wear anything but `sensible shoes` for half an hour, I would be hobbling around for ther rest of the day and my feet would probably suffer for a day or two

I think a major problem with people in general is the inability to think ahead a little, and anticipate.

So the footwearers you mention take no account of the temperature, or the under-foot conditions, but that's just how people go on. Similarly, you see or hear a weather forecast which predicts rain, so you have a coat and / or an umbrella, and see loads of people with neither - simple anticipation, not thought about in advance.

I am seriously lucky, I have only ever had bad feet once - after my first trip to Glastonbury when I neglected to wear socks thick enough to protect my feet from being rubbed by my brand new wellies - blisters for three weeks was my reminder, but i thought about it the following year!
Woman wearing flip-flops in village this morning. -1C.
perhaps they are comfortable shoes for them? they may not suffer after wearing them like you would.

redhelen, the only reason I mentioned big about the woman was that she had obviously squeezed into them IMO. Her feet hardly were hardly in them. I dont mean any disrespect to people wearing high heels whether, big little or anything else but the fact that she could possibly slip was a real concern to me. I hope she doesnt of course. Im just amazed.
I used to wear high heeled shoes all the time, not excessively high but definitely more than a kitten heel. I had an operation and can't wear heels now (well I could but it would be pretty stupid) but previously I had no problem walking in heels and was perfectly comfortable in them. If it was slippy then obviously I wouldn't and if it snowed or rained excessively then I would wear suitable footwear but I have been caught out before by not checking the weather in the morning in the same way I've been caught out by not bringing a brolly or wearing unsuitable clothes.

I know you can be caught out, but the weather forecast for today did predict cold and frosty today. We dont live in a big town and Im talking about 9.30 so it must have been cold and frosty when they set out from home
There was a lady in Morrisons yesterday, in a summer cotton short sleeved top with cropped trousers and slip on shoes. She looked happy enough!! She wasn't a young lady, she was more of a sensible looking middle aged lady!!
And I remember wearing silly shoes in winter when I was young and fashion conscious - daft really, but weren't we all when we were young.

I am now, not by choice, a member of the sensible shoe brigade because of chronic arthritis in both feet......................... sighs :o(
not sure why the first answer was removed, i thought it was a fair, if snippy, response.
"ballet type shoes"?

Well I quite often wear ballet pumps. They are comfy, and smart.

This post was not intended to offend anyone. I just wondered if anyone else wore sensible shoes like myself really and just compared myself to people Id seen along the way to work this morning.
I didn't find your post offensive TheOtherHalf - not in any way. Don't worry about it.
i saw a young asian woman this morning wearing tiny pumps, but a warm jacket etc, no sense these women.
I didn't find your post offensive either, but still don't think the response warranted removal.
Young lad out in his garden chatting to his mates over the fence yesterday. He had on nothing but a pair of trainers and boxer shorts! I had coat, boots, scarf and gloves on. Ah to be young again!
perhaps their young brains don't register cold, how many times do you see pictures of young women tottering down the high street, wearing what a hooker would give back as being too tacky.
white stiletto^s for me at all times !
It's a fact that young people do not feel the cold like us older types, but even if they do, they are more than willing to suffer in the name of looking good.

I wear Doc marten shoes summer and winter for work - and trainers or similar outside word - with wellies if the weather is really foul.
I can remember wearing hot pants out with boots in the seventies. The young don't feel the cold and fashion comes first.
