Really painful horrible nose infections, why do I get them all the time?

I cant remember if I've posted about this before but for several years now I've been getting nose infections. At the moment this one started on Fri as just a tiny red sore patch under my nostril following a bad cold. I know the isgns of it so I immediately used the antibiotic cream from last time. By the afternoon it had quickly grown in size and got more painful and by Sat it is horrible in apperance and goes crusty and yellow! Nice I know lol. So this morning its even worse and my whole nose is swollen and extremly sore to touch so I've now been put on oral antibiotics too.
I would say I get them every few months or so and it does seem to be when I'm run down. It can be right up in the nostril, either one or both sides or like it is now just on the outside bit. I've never had a diagnosis before but the GP said its probably herpes or a staph infection?
So does anyone suffer the same? Is there anything that can be done to prevent this and should I get it diagnosed exactly what it is?

It sounds like herpes, or what is commonly called a cold sore. I have suffered from them for years, and also get them on my lip. As soon as you feel a tingling sensation you should apply ZOVIRAX cream which will either stop it developing into a full blown sore, or will shorten its duration. You can buy it in the chemist or have a prescription from your GP. It's expensive to buy as it comes in a tiny tube. Hope you feel better soon.
