Cortisone Injections?

Last September I had an operation on my shoulder. The operation doesnt appear to have been successful and now the consultant wants to give me a cortisone injection by ultrasound.
I am not very happy about this as I have already had 2 before the operation and neither worked! My Dr told me at the time that he wouldnt give me anymore.
Surely this next injection isnt going to solve the problems/pain I'm having when the op and previous injections didnt work?

I can quite understand your concern, however you have not told us for what condition the operation was performed...e.g frozen shoulder.

He clearly has identified an area of concern and wants to more accurately inject the cortisone.

If you still have pain following the operation four months ago, then what have you to lose in following the advice of your Consultant?

Hi Sqad, I had impringment syndrome and had a Subacromial Decompression, and a Bursectomy. I am in so much pain, far more than before I had the operaton! I am having physio, pool therapy and acupuncture - still taking pain killers regularly and not sleeping because of the pain.
My physio has suggested referring me to another consultant.
I think that something is not right with my shoulder and having this injection is just covering up the problem.

Hi!....I am not always in favour of the "second opinion manoeuvre" but in your case i would agree with your physio.

I also had an operation for an impringment on my hip last year which I don't think has been entirely successful either. I ended up in a lot of pain again just before christmas and I had a cortisone injection which actually really helped. Although i feel like it is beginning to wear off now and where the damage is will not be fixed easily by surgery and I am too young (and I don't think in enough pain) to warrent a hip replacement op.

I know the cortisone worked for but you sound like you are suffering way more than me and I agree with your physio and Sqad, get a second opinion.

China Doll - Glad the injection worked for you and sorry to hear its wearing off.
I too am quite young and it does worry me what my arm/shoulder is going to be like in 20/30 yrs time as I cant lift it properly now, or reach behind my back, I struggle putting clothes on and reaching/lifting for things.
I really wish I'd never had it done as the pain I'm in now is continuous and a 'different' type of pain I experienced before the operation.
I'm back at the hospital for acupuncture tomorrow so I will speak to the physio about the next course of action!

I find that since the op the pain I get is now always as bad as it was pre-op in a very short period of time when prior to the op it actually took a good year to get to that level of pain... if that makes any sense at all. I slightly regret mine as well but in fairness to the docs it's really not their fault and I think they have done their best but I also have a slightly odd shaped hip joint as well which doesn't help.

I hope you get your second opinion. My chap is very good but he is based in central london so think maybe that won't be so useful to you.
