Is everyone told they're good looking by strangers?

Let me start by saying that I don't hate myself, but my entire life I've been average looking. My mother said I was ugly, the rest of my family were other males (and narcissistic at that).

My question is: Most strangers or new acquaintances comment that I'm good looking. There isn't really a TYPE of woman who says this. They age from 18 to 50yrs old and span most ethnicities.

I'm far from CK model material, so I want to know: Are these people just being polite? Is this something that people just say to keep life pleasant for the unfortunate looking.

PS: I compliment people very much, but I believe what I'm saying when I look for the good in people. Most "ugly people" i've noticed have really above average features when you really look.

First I think your mother was wrong to say that you are ugly. For a start it is unhelpful even if true - what can you do about it, and your looks are in your genes so either she or your father must have been responsible for them to an extent. It is very unusual to ever tell another human being about their looks, good bad or indifferent. It is a very personal thing. Once you are in love with someone you may tell them how great they are and how good they look. I would say you are above averagely good looking for anybody that you are not in love with to make remarks about your looks. If they say you are good looking they are not likely to be lying, in which case I can only conclude that maybe your mother said you were ugly as she was trying to stop you realising that you were better looking than your brothers.

the attached picture sums up my feeling of your "interest" in yourself.
I like the way it comes up in Latest Posts... currently "is Everyone Told They're Good Looking By Jackthehat" (but about to change, of course)
Simple answer, no I've never been told I'm good looking by a stranger!
ooooh ... 50 ?

they are getting younger
agree with grasscarp, your mother just didn't want you to become vain!....did she succeed?............hope so!...........suspect not!........lol.....
The root of your problem is probably having a mother who'd tell her child they're ugly.
"Is everyone told they're good looking by strangers?", erm I've never been told I'm good looking by anyone at all because I am fugly.

I'm really envious of pretty people. They are very lucky. I am what I am and not much I can do about it.

Have you ever been told you're good looking by a stranger then?

P.S What a mean mum you have lol
As a teenager my mother told me not to make the mirror my friend!...I was not encouraged to be vain in any way!......the result was that I was lacking in confidence for a long time!.....in truth I was attractive, I think, but took me a long time to realise that it was ok!.......maybe the same is true for you!...
When people compliment you ask 'em what they are selling.
there is more to a person than just looks, missc......I can understand hitting on yourself if you are no Emma Watson/Kiera Knightley, whoever, but your mind and personality go an awful long way to building an aura around you. Same for you DA......
