My partner has type 2 diabetes and has been told by doc he has protein in his urine; he's very worried, although I'm sure there is no reason to be.

Can anyone kindly explain what this is, how it's caused and if it is worth worrying about?

Thanks in advance

There are many causes of protein in the urine(Proteinuria), so Google it and get back to us with any questions.

However in the case of your partner who has Type 2 diabetes, if it is not well controlled then protein in the urine may indicate kidney problems (diabetic nephropathy) which needs attending to.

I would suggest that his urine is tested again.......to confirm the presence of protein.

Thanks Squad. The doc has requested more samples on Mon.

He take his medication as he should, but is not conscious of what he eats, he doesn't eat healthily enough despite constant nagging from me! He also drinks far too much - we've been trying to sort this out recently also. Could it be the drinking that's caused it - because he needs a wake up call - fast.
Meg888.....LOL...".wake up call?"..........don't we all?

If the next urine test doesn't show protein........then don't worry.
If the next urine test does show protein and this is backed up by blood tests and uncontrolled blood sugar levels.............then worry.

Thanks Squad. I hope it's not to worry about - he's trying to sort his drinking probs out, but he may well just have to tell the doc about it....
