Three of my children are complaining of sore throats (ages 11, 6 & 4). They all have bad ears too. Apart from Calpol, etc what can I do to ease their sore throats? One is very croaky, one has a terrible cough and one (the eldest) is known to lay it on a bit thick. Thanks.

Can they gargle ?

Gargling and spitting out with warm salty water can help.
They're too wee for soluble aspirin which can also help if gargled.
Would they tolerate steam inhalations with a towel over a bowl ?
Honey and lemon drinks too , if they'll take them. (Just hot water with honey and lemon juice in it.

Sorry for you all :-((
this can be used in children over the age of 6 (and is the only thing that truly works, imho). Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation

what you'd do with the 4oy...i don't know! i used to like warm blackcurrant juice (as i hate lemon and honey). x
I find Strepsil tablets are very good.
They are children Howard
Strepsils can be given to the two older children as they are for over age 6.
Carry on as you are doing.......Calpol or ibuprofen.
Along with the pain relief, mine like ice poles to suck which gives some temporary relief.
A generous rub of viks on soles of feet and socks on at night works a miricle. Sounds crazy but works. (for the coughs)
My mum used to say that sucking a boiled sweet was as good as a throat lozenge -i was the sucking that help move the saliva around.
