I'm considering weight loss surgery as a last resort. Has anyone experience of this good or bad? Many thanks.....Elaine x

I know how you feel to be down about your size, sometimes I can't face going places where people will know me, but happier in the next town up where I can be fat old me!

What is your BMI? Taking other criteria into account, would you qualify?

How about giving it one more go with us and see if we can't lose a bit together this summer?

Here's a link to last month's thread to give you an idea what goes on and look out for April's when it appears any day now. Click on "Body and Soul" and there's a weight loss section. It'll be in there x

As suggested by others, see how it goes with a different weight loss diet/plan.
Surgery ought to be a last resort, however if you feel it is the only option in order to achieve the weight loss and dependant upon where you live you may qualify via the NHS.
If that's not a viable option, you may need to see a consultant surgeon in a private capacity.
However it pans out, best of luck.

Just saw your question and had to reply! Please, don't think of having surgery. This is such a serious (and dangerous) way to lose weight. I know that it's tempting when you've "tried everything" and not lost or kept off any loss, but surgery is really not the way to go. I had dieted again and again with little or no effect for years and finally lost the weight by adopting a low-carb diet. My sister (who was morbidly obese and diagnosed with type 2 diabetes) also lost her excess weight this way. It's easier than any diet you've ever tried and will cost you nothing! Give it a go. The first few days are hard, but it gets easier and easier - I eat this way out of choice now to keep my weight stable. For the science and what to eat/what to avoid see http://www.dietdoctor.com/lchf Best of luck!
This might sound a bit loopy, but have you considered gastric band hypnotherapy? If you google it, plenty of websites will come up. A friend of mine tried it, and the results were just the same as though she'd had a gastric band (i.e. she didn't want to eat as much as before, and gradually lost weight), but without the risks associated with surgery.
