PLEASE HELP!!! A month ago I got a very bad cold/flu. I was coughing so hard and bad with phlegm. The doc gave me 2 sets of antibiotics and other capsules to help with the coughing. It helped to ease off the worse. At the same stage of my cold/flu I quit smoking. Now it has been a month and im still coughing. I know its normal to cough up mucky phlegm after quitting smoking, but other than that im breathless when i walk for 1 minute even go upstairs, after I eat I cough, after I laugh I cough. In the morning I cant get my breath back from coughing. Its like symtoms of Asthma. My cold/flu and me quitting smoking has all combined and I cant figure out whats wrong with me. I felt healthier when smoking even when I was ill. I have no intention to start smoking again, but I also cannot handle this cough and breathlessness. Please any suggestions or experiences you have had? Im desperate!!!

My sympathies. I developed a chest infection yesterday and have just come back from the drop-in clinic with some antibiotics as I am out of breath as soon as I stand up.

Yeh a month ago was a chest infection but its cleared and im still coughing and breathless. Hope ur infection clears. Steamy Eucalyptus baths and rubbing viks under your feet at night helps with the worse part. Good luck.
If you have no chest pain or indeed swelling of the feet, which I am sure that you haven't, then don't worry.

The cough?...yes, can be really debilitating, but will eventually settle.....no idea when though.
have you visited GP?

@sqad - its not easy to not have chest pain after a month of coughing, but no swelling in feet. What would that mean?

@petal54 - I have visited a GP, he gave me antibiotics and cough capsules, as I mentioned.

I agree and sympathise.......but you didn't mention PAIN in your OP.

The sweeling of the feet may indicate a degree of right sided heat failure, which might explain the coughing, but it is an extreme long shot.

@ Sqad - Ahh i see. Pain only from coughing for a month. Nothing more. Thanks for your answers. Im praying this cough leaves me alone now.
Why not go back to see your doctor,if there is no underlying problem he can give you codine that will help get rid of the cough tout sweet

@nannybooby - Thinking to go back to get checked for asthma. Thanks for the advice.
Go back to see your GP. My wife had similar breathing problems recently, without the cold/flu symptoms, and ended up in hospital due to low oxygen/high CO2 levels. Now has been diagnosed with COPD.
Question Author
@twix123 - Hope your wife feels better soon. I will go to my GP asap.
