a poorly handled or badly taken sample can cause it.

The leaflet included with the letter said that could cause a mild to moderate abnormal result, could it also cause severe?
Does you letter actually say 'severely abnormal'?
All sorts of conditions can give you an abnormal smear, including infections such as thrush.

Malignant disease is the least likely.

Wow, sorry you have had this news but it doesn't mean it's bad news, actually it's good if you think about it, because what ever is causing it is now on the way to being got rid of
Please try not to google too much
Do what it tells to on your letter - in my experience, this can be different from area to area and please, try not to worry

thanks, thats sweet :) theyve given me a number to call for colposcopy dept, but always goes to an answerphone. Have now rung docs to see what they can do.
Also, severe is how much of the cervix the abnormal cells cover not 'how bad' the abnormality is, if that makes sense
Excellent - lets us know how you get please
Dont know if this helps but I also had exactly the same result, they then sent me to have the smear re-done and the second one was totally normal.
