Hi, I have recently injured my back (around the shoulder region). I am not too sure what i have done but i think it could be a sprain. The other day I heard a rumor that once you have injured your back the same injury will occur again and again for the rest of your life. Is this true and if so, why?

I had a problem with a disc in my back way back in 1984, and though it did recur a couple of times within the next couple of years I have not had a problem since. Probably depends exactly on what injury you've got though, as I tore the ligaments in the top of my foot over 5 years ago and I still get trouble with that from time to time
A simple sprain won't, however tears in fibres, either muscular or ligaments/tendons will because the tissue grows in the direction of stress - as this varies you end up with a patchwork quilt which is not as strong as the original fabric. This is why stretching of an injury is crucial to long term recovery - you must stimulate the fibres to regrow in the correct pattern.

as said, i don't think it has anything to do with your back, it depends on the injury.  If you tear ligaments or tendons anywhere in your body, it will never be as strong again.  But depending on what you've done, there is no reason that you can't make a full recovery and it never bother you again.
