oh yes, still carry more weight than the doc says I should but with age and experience, the IBS has dwindled to an occasional inconvenience. There is NO point trying to deal with the weight, bloating etc until you have your IBS sorted and you know what kind of a diet/ lifestyle works for you. Then and only then if you want to, try to exercise a bit more and adjust your diet to gently reduce your size. Do not try to make any quick or drastic changes to your diet or you'll be back in IBS hell
With arthritis, IBS and middle age I  seem to be fighting a losing battle!  Have just tried a few days of just eating fruit and veg. and it has proved a terrible mistake as far as the IBS is concerned.
My IBS actually caused me to LOSE weight.  I felt so miserable last summer that I hardly had any appetite.  Appetite is back now and the IBS is off and on but perhaps in a way it was a "blessing" (if you could even call it that) because I did lose the weight and now eat often, but tiny portions.
I am in the same boat as you FP.My doctor told me that you can overdo too much fibre and this makes IBS worse.I have found that Milk Thistle tablets from the health shop are very good for IBS.I have also cut out dairy stuff and only drink a little milk in tea and have cut out coffee.I use Oatley milk as a substitute on cereals etc.Don't lose any weight though!Mind you I have lost a few pounds this week.At the grand age of 56 I have had the mumps which was and still is at the moment most unpleasant.
