Mosquito and gnat bites, whats the best way to stop the itch?

Would anti-itch cream work, i dont usually suffer from these bites but this year I am getting bitten to death and waking up in the night itching and scratching like a madman.!!

I`d try antihistamine cream like Anthisan Bite & Sting. If that didn`t work I`d hit it with Eurax (the hydrocortisone/crotamiton one)

Boots, 'Bite & Sting Relief' in a dab-on pen type thing works for me everytime, I get a few bites when dog-walking, and NO not from the dogs.

I prefer antihistamine tablets before bed, and Fenistil Gel, which is very soothing.

take an allergy tablet (cetirizine or loratidine - cheap from behind the counter: 30 for under £3) and use a cream on the actual bites. i always found if i took yeast tablets (available from pharmacy also) that they never used to bite me. poor you x

Re lcg76's point about yeast tablets, some people reckon that eating Marmite deters mozzies. If you don't like the taste you could always smear it over your arms and legs - except your dogs would probably lick you to death

If it's available in the U.K., I've found, over the years, here in the U.S., that Campho Phenique[i works wonders. The active ingredient is [i]Camphor], has a slightly medicianl smell and the gel version seems to work the best.

I have Marmite every day and it doesn't stop me getting bitten, I recently got bitten on the sole of my foot whilst sitting out in the garden, luckily I had a bite and sting relief roll on from Poundland which helped a lot, it also helped on the same day when I was attacked by some stinging nettles. Although I think prevention is better than cure, so try some repellent as well, says she who has some but didn't apply it = bitten foot!

There is a little gadget you can buy called "Zanza-click" which you place over the bite and just click a few times. This causes the histamine within the bite to disperse and the itching eases and goes.
We have had one for a few years, and it comes out every year when necessary. Very tiny, so can be carried in a handbag or pocket. I think Boots sold them.

Vitamin B-1 helps a lot - 75-150mg daily

I'm using Mepyramine Maleate cream at the moment, I think its helping but I'm using far more than is recommended.

If you catch it immediately - which isn't so easy if you're out and about, I know - try an Aspivenin. It draws out the stuff that's causing the problem and is reusable for ever (until it breaks, I suppose). I got bitten by a horse fly the other day, used it at once and had not problem afterwards, wherease I normally react very badly.

I use Afterbite which is much the same as the Boots sting pen - but as a preventive, you can't beat Avon skin so soft dry body oil spray. The blue version isn't scented so is OK for blokes.

Boots sell little click devices that send an electric pulse and de activate the itch! Really works!!!

If you're using loads of your cream Ratter, you're best to change it for another type. I use Anthisan Bite & Sting too and it works within minutes. Soemtimes needs applying again after a few hours, but that's usually it.

We're all bitten to differing degrees and all respond to creams in differnet way. Swap it until you find the one for you. But the anti his element is awlays a good idea.

The electric clicky thing is needed only once! At the first itch! Works permananently are that!!!
