Fish and chips

As I was out last night, my husband went to the local chippie and bought himself a large cod, medium chips and mushy peas. He also had a can of coke.

He has had to get up three times in the night and has had diarrhoea, so he's feeling a bit sorry for himself this morning.

Now, we rarely eat fatty, greasy food and he takes statins for high cholesterol.

Has he just had some kind of reaction to the fat and grease he ate, when I wasn't looking and/or there to stop him?

Tilly maybe the fish could have been off or something wrong with the oil, difficult to ascertain I would think.
Greasy food does that to me too - I only have fish and chips about once a month and never fry in the house.

I reason that I don't fry is not because I eat healthily but I have a short attention span and usually wander off and forget that I have things cooking. I set fire to pots and pans.

That's why my husband went to the chippie, wolf. He's not good in the kitchen either.
has he had his gall bladder out, tilly, as that can sometimes contribute, the fat passing into the gut. Otherwise, my finger would be pointing at the oil.
Question Author
I agree daisya, that the fish may have been 'off'. I just wondered if the statins had anything to do with it. The trouble is that he thinks he can eat anything because he's taking statins. I'm not sure that's the right attitude.
Question Author
No dt, he still has a gall bladder. So, off fish, rancid oil?
I would say the fish was off in some way, Tilly.
The fish is my bet and I wouldn't blame the statins.
Question Author
Thanks, everyone. We won't be using that chippie again.
Well, as you say that you rarely eat fatty food, perhaps it was just the fact that he did exactly that! Any kind of rich food, if you aren't used to it, can have that effect. Don't just blame the chippy!
If I eat certain types of fat, such as that form the chippie (bad fats) I get dreadful tummy upset
IF you suspect food poisoning I think you should report it to your environmental health dept
You should also get your OH to the GP
I think this was little more than over indulgence
Question Author
I don't think it's food poisoning. He hasn't been sick just up and down to the loo.
He's still in bed so I'll see how he is when he gets up.

Thanks. Steve.
I dont fry anything, apart from the odd egg, so on the occasion when we do have something like fish and chips my tummy sometimes suffers. just not used to the grease/oil on a regular basis.
Question Author
He seems to be alright now. He's had a couple of fluid replacement drinks and feels better.

Thank you all for your answers.
I hope that he bought Diet Coke and not that nasty full of calories stuff! :-)
It'll be the grease, tilly - and no, he shouldn't be eating just anything. Statins can only help with just so much - he needs to think about low fat, not high battered and crispy!
Question Author
Yes, I think it was the grease, boxy. It serves him right for taking advantage of the fact that I wasn't around to provide a low fat option.
I suppose I could have left him a chicken salad in the 'fridge but he was determined to have his fish and chips.

He's fine now.
That'll teach you for giving him some pocket money, won't it?
