On Atkins which is best/worst?

I know on the Atkins Diet carbs are the enemy. To me the main culprits would appear to be bread, potatoes, pasta and rice. But of these 4 or any other biggies that I neglected to think of, which would be the most forgivable to have now and again and which are the biggest no-no's?

I think they are all on a par. Are you happy to switch to brown rice and wholemeal bread?
All no-nos. The Atkins theory is that you put food into your body that satisfies your hunger, but that your body has to work hard to get calories out of. If you eat carbs, your body will get the calories out of those and the other food you eat, e.g. eggs and bacon, will instead put weight on you.

Ellipsis, are you saying that there are calories within carbs?
Bread, potatoes, pasta and rice all have calories ...
errmmm....all food has calories-but not all calories are 'equal'.
Carbs all are,or convert to,sugar-which is the real enemy.
If you eat a meal of carbs and fat-the carbs are burnt first...and the fat is stored. If you eat a meal with just protein and fat-the fat will get utilised first.
Carbs are not the 'enemy' if they are in the form of leafy green veg,and lower sugar fruits such as berries.

I thought Atkins didn't allow carbs.

Atkins is not a diet you can "cheat" on. If you ate any of them you wouldn't be on the Atkins diet. Simple as that.
Just knock off the Refined carbs.
You should also stay awy from all the low carb substitutes-they are just processed junk like any other-and full of salt and ingredients whose names you can't pronounce. Best to stick with real food.
are you actually following the atkins diet properly or just going on a general low carb diet?
if just generally cutting down, id say potato is probably the best as you can eat squash, and other root veg.

if you are doing the atkins properly then none at all - you cant have any - at least not until the 4th phase. you also cant have any sugar, fruit, and certain veg.
as said, you cannot cheat at all - you will undo all your efforts in one mouthful and be back to square one.

you would be best buying the book it wil tel you everything.
I find no-fat yogurt mixed with oat brn gives an excellent Atkins / Dukan compliant om-nom-nom
you cannot have yogurt or oat bran on atkins...
On the most up to date Atkins ,you can have 20grams net carbs on Phase 1-this increases with each phase. It's not as restrictive as in the past.

Thanks for the replies. I was only asking out of interest and am not following atkins strictly. I am trying to ready low carb foods but will still be eating most veg and fruit that I like and battered fish etc.
